Slower Arm, Bigger Impact | Cleveland Guardians News

Parker Messick is rewriting the script for dominance in MLB pitching—without needing to break the speedometer. With a fastball averaging just 94 mph, he’s outpitching velocity kings by mastering command, inducing weak contact, and letting his defense do the heavy lifting. Drafted in 2022, he made his MLB debut in 2025 and has since become Cleveland’s most reliable arm this season, nearly throwing a no-hitter and leading the rotation with grit over gaudy stats. His unflashy, smart approach proves that elite pitching isn’t about how fast you throw—it’s about how well you control the game.
