Small Wonder S1E21: Like Father, Like Son

from Looking Back On My Wonder Years: A Wonder Years Podcast · host Angela Bowen

Hey Everyone, Angela Bowen here, the host of Small Wonder: She's A Small Wonder Podcast. Today, I covered Small Wonder S1E21: Like Father, Like Son, which aired on March 1, 1986. In this episode Ted pushes Jamie to try out for the football team. I gotta say, Ted beyond infuriates me this episode, he flat out calls Jamie a loser because Jamie doesn’t want to play football and follow in his father’s high school football footsteps. Turns out Ted has a secret from his past that when I hear it, it pushes me over the edge and puts Ted in the top spot of TV’s Worst Father Category. I thought Ted blowing off Jamie’s father son school picnic for a golf game was bad, but he basically calls Jamie a loser, that’s a BIG WTF Moment for me. Harriet looked adorable in her cheerleading outfit although the yellow shirt made her pale skin look washed out. Comment deserved after she blackmails Jamie. She couldn’t even spell his name for a proper cheer she got as far as J. Harriet is a longer name than Jamie. Her comment about one day getting bigger Pom Pom’s in high school was that another term for saying bigger boobs? Vicki ruins and breaks so many things this episode, a TV, a window, pants and a shirt, the garage door all by taking what Ted and Joan say literally. Join me next month NOVEMBER when I cover S1E22: Vaudeville Vicki, which aired on May 3, 1986. In this episode an aging entertainer says Vicki is his daughter. and S1E23: The Real Facts Of Life, which aired on May 10, 1986. In this episode Jamie attempts to educate his dad in the ways of love. Have a great Halloween everyone and remember to be safe and cautious when going out and trick or treating.
