An early warning permits timely deployment of preventive measures before outbursts spiral out of control. The Mayo psychiatric and experimental therapeutics investigators report in JAMA Network Open their development of a smartwatch-based alert system that can be worn by children ages 3 to 7. The watch detects elevating heart rates and excessive movements, sends that data to an AI-powered smartphone app that predicts if a tantrum is developing, and promptly transmits timely warning alerts to parents.A randomized clinical trial studied 50 families over 16 weeks. It demonstrated that parents using this smartwatch system were able to intervene within an average of four seconds after an alert. This early intervention cut the duration of tantrums by half compared with standard therapy. This early warning system may prevent many parents having to drag their kids out of restaurants and stores.https://www.news-medical.net/news/20251215/Smartwatch-alerts-help-parents-manage-childrens-tantrums.aspxhttps://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/41396603/#tantrums #children #earlyintervention #smartwatches
