SMF Live 1312 - John Doyle

Born into an extended family of musicians in Dublin, John Doyle honed his signature left-hand finger-picking style on the guitar at a young age. His powerful playing later provided the signature rhythmic backbone for Irish-American supergroup Solas, which he co-founded with Seamus Egan, John Williams, Karan Casey and Winifred Horan in 1994. The ensemble took the folk and Celtic music worlds by storm, performing to sold-out audiences across the globe. Since then, Doyle has continued to perfect his playing and songwriting on the road and in the studio, collaborating with some of the most revered names in the genre including Liz Carroll, Susan McKeown, John Baez Kate Rusby, Cherish the Ladies, John McCusker and Michael McGoldrick, Tim O’Brien and many others. In 2010, he earned a Grammy nomination for his work with Liz Carroll.
