Smithsonian Museums Temporarily Closed | Washington DC News
from Washington DC News Today | 2 Min News | The Daily News Now!
Seven Smithsonian museums on the National Mall are closed today due to a mechanical issue — including the National Museum of the American Indian and the Hirshhorn — with no further details yet. This isn’t the first time: last year, the National Museum of African American History and Culture shut down for similar reasons, and last summer, four museums including the Hirshhorn were closed for HVAC problems. For visitors, it’s a bummer — especially since spots like the Smithsonian Castle (just reopened for the Semiquincentennial) and the Arts and Industries Building (back open since 2004) have limited run dates until August 10th and September 7th respectively. While some doors are shut, plenty of history is still on display. Check the Smithsonian website for reopening updates — and don’t worry, most other institutions remain open.
