Smyrna, DE - There's A Scrooge McDuck Situation in the Basement

Welcome to Smyrna, Delaware, "Always Marching Forward!"  Located in northern Delaware on the bank of Duck Creek, Smyrna was first settled in the early 1700s and was originally named Salisbury in 1716.  The town grew quickly as a shipping port  serving the Duck Creek area.  The town was officially renamed Smyrna in 1806.  Smyrna's shipping industry shrank during the 19th century and the area turned to agriculture to support the town.  The town's current largest employer is a Wal-Mart Distribution Center.  Smyrna has been called home by a surprising number of politicians throughout the years including 5 US Congressmen, 1 US Senator, and 4 Governors.  We hope you enjoy our visit to Smyrna!      Small Town News--whose headline is it, anyway? @SmallTownNewsImprov
