from The Maine Weather Podcast
Good morning! I'm DJ Huzz. And welcome to the Maine Weather Podcast. It's Tuesday, February 24th. Folks, that inch and a half of fresh snow looks gorgeous on the trees right now. Enjoy the view.. Because Arctic air is barreling in behind it. And tonight gets brutal. Let's start along the coast. Portland and the south coast top out at 31 degrees around 3 PM. Northwest winds gust to 15 miles an hour this morning, shifting west by 2 PM. Then the bottom drops out. You're at 10 degrees by 4 AM. It'll feel like 6 by 11 PM. That damp coastal cold cuts right through everything. Over in Augusta and Waterville, you'll hit 29 degrees this afternoon. Overnight? Seven degrees. Wind chills sink to 2 around midnight. Layer up if you're heading anywhere after dark. Up in Bangor, you reach 30 degrees around 2 PM. Then temperatures nosedive to 2 degrees by 6 AM. That northwest wind shifts west by 9 PM. Downeast stays the mildest spot today. Highs of 32 degrees around 3 PM. But lows crash to 6 by morning. Feels like 5 around 1 AM. Now the Western Mountains.. A whole different beast. High of just 15 degrees. Overnight lows hit minus 3. Wind chills drop to minus 9 by 11 PM. Sugarloaf riders, your goggles are going to fog and freeze. Fair warning. Aroostook gets scattered snow showers lingering through 5 PM. High of 26 degrees. Lows plunge to minus 2 by morning. Looking ahead, the cold locks in through midweek. Snow moves in Wednesday morning.. One to three inches Downeast, possibly snarling the evening commute. Thursday clears out. Saturday brings a sweet little thaw, highs near 40 degrees. Then Sunday night, Arctic air storms back with wicked cold wind chills to kick off March. Charge your phone tonight. Cold like this kills batteries faster than you'd think. That's your forecast — we'll be back tomorrow. Take care!
