Social media ban for under-16s faces enforcement challenges
from Sunrise · host LiSTNR
Australia's world-first social media ban for under-16s has been in effect for six months, with the government claiming over 5 million accounts removed from platforms including Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, TikTok and Snapchat. Cyber security expert Susan McLean reports that many children aged 13-16 are still accessing platforms by passing facial recognition checks or having parents complete verification for them. No fines have been issued yet by the safety commissioner, and enforcement remains a significant challenge with alternative platforms not covered by the ban still causing harm.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
