Softening the Hardness of Heart: Lessons on Love and Humility - 13 August 2026

This homily examines the theological and interpersonal dangers of maintaining a hardened heart, specifically within the context of marriage and community life. Drawing from the Gospel of Matthew, I argue that while Moses granted concessions like divorce because of human stubbornness, the original divine intent was a permanent, unified bond between man and woman. Our reflection this morning identifies pride, selfishness, and indifference as internal flaws that manifest as external conflict and a refusal to compromise with others. To combat this spiritual rigidity, the homily encourages practicing humility and flexibility, citing the self-sacrificial example of Saint Maximilian Kolbe. Ultimately, the message serves as a call to reject materialistic laziness in favor of the disciplined charity required to sustain healthy relationships.
