from Sole Free - Sneakers & Culture · host Harlan Friedman
Rick DeMint, an NYU Langone employee and part-time MBA student, recently unveiled his exhibition, "Portroids: A 20 Year Retrospective," at Brooklyn Film Camera in Williamsburg. The display featured 212 autographed Polaroid portraits capturing DeMint's favorite celebrities, comedians, and personal connections. Started in 2003 as a way to document his life, the project evolved into a comprehensive showcase of 5,000 photographs spanning two decades. Organized in black and white frames, the exhibition formed a giant Polaroid wall, offering a photo journal of popular culture and a time capsule of the 2000s. Notable figures like MCA, Matthew McConaughey, Chuck D, and Barack Obama, alongside NYU alumni such as Donald Glover, are featured. The show's unique aspect is its encouragement for viewers to photograph the Polaroids, fostering a connection between the audience and the joy DeMint experiences in capturing each subject. Lucas C. Ospina from BFC talks about the Polaroid craze as well.
