Solferino, 1859

A very bloody battle a long time ago...but what is significant is the aftermath of the battle, which was witnessed by Jean-Henri Dunant. The horrors he witnessed led him to start a campaign that led to the Geneva Convention, and to the formation of the Red Cross to help reduce the suffering of war. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Solferino Remember those that suffered at Solferino, the next time you give to the Red Cross. Remember all those that suffered and died in so many wars. -------------- Image taken from: "Battle Of Solferino" - Carlo Bossoli, 1859
