Maduro is the successor to Democratic Socialist president Hugo Chavez, and was in the midst of overseeing a continuation of the wildly successful democratic socialist policies Chavez had spearheaded, which have lifted millions of Venezuelans from grinding poverty to the middle class. Finally, I discuss the current historical moment we find ourselves in the United States, as we bear witness in real time to the nascent rise of a legitimate Populist Movement and domestic class struggle here at home, and what it would mean for the millions of people negatively impacted by American Imperialism around the globe.
