In 2022, six-year-old Paislee Shultis was discovered alive in a small, cold room under the stairs of her grandfather's New York home, after her non-custodial parents hid her for over two years. In a separate 2007 case, police found a 15-year-old girl locked in a tiny hidden room in Connecticut after she had been missing for a year, hidden behind a dresser beneath a staircase. Both girls were found by police responding to tips, and their abductors were arrested.
