What makes people happy differs across cultures and individuals. In this episode, Braus proposes (and Scot disposes of) the idea of using a new metric: Gross Domestic Misery (GDM), to measure a country's economic development.  GDM is less subjective since what makes us miserable is more objective than what makes us happy. It is also easier to measure from some widely gathered statistics, such as poverty and unemployment rates.
