Somatic Processing Meditation
from Cope Well - Behavior Therapy Skills to support Mental Health and Well-being · host Dr. Ashley DeLuccia
Let’s begin my acknowledging that it isn’t easy and doesn’t always feel safe to feel difficult emotions. Instead of avoiding them or projecting them by blaming others, take responsibility for your own feelings. They are a part of us and are worth paying attention to. This knowing can help you pay attention to them and begin the healing process. * Find a feeling that’s safe so you have something to ground you if needed. (For example, bring attention back to the support of your chair.)* Recall a situation that caused a big emotion that you haven’t dealt with yet. Activate the unprocessed emotion.* Notice the emotion. Name it. Describe it. Where is it? What does it look like (as you imagine it)?* Breathe into the feeling. Allow it. Listen to it. Keep being present until it begins to shift. You may notice it changing as you pay attention to it. Let it integrate with your nervous system.* As you feel lighter, when you are ready, come back to the safe feeling you named in the beginning of the session. Take a deep breath and notice how you feel. Big emotions may need more than one session. Keep being willing to listen to your emotions. My hope is that this session moves you towards healing. You are worthy of feeling good.Cope well. This is a public episode. If you'd like to discuss this with other subscribers or get access to bonus episodes, visit ashleydeluccia.substack.com/subscribe
