Some of Their Students Used to Bully Each Other. Now, They're a Team.

At Guardian Peru, some of the same kids who used to bully each other now train side by side. "I was bullied, I came to Guardian, I got better at jiu-jitsu, and life's better," one kid told founder Salvatore Sanguinetti. Another said the opposite: "I used to be a bully. I came to Guardian and I stopped." Now they surf together.Salvatore and Guardian executive director Calder Powers talk about building that culture from a living room in Piura, Peru into 36 free jiu-jitsu academies across Latin America, Africa, and Asia, and why Salvatore insists jiu-jitsu itself isn't the point. It's just the reason kids show up long enough for that kind of change to happen.
