Someone in the House

I was awake. I don’t remember falling asleep and I’m not really sure how I got into bed. But I was awake now. There was a very distant ringing in my ears. Sort of like the aftermath of a concussive blast that makes you deaf. Only this ringing seemed far off inside my head. Must have had a rough night, I suppose. But honestly, I really couldn’t remember what happened last night.
