Been on an amazing beach during a well deserved vacation, and the sun setting on the water and you are thinking about work, the house or car you want to buy. Lots of things except about where  you are and what you're experiencing. Everywhere you go you are thinking of the next deal, the next big thing. Maybe you are at home, watching tv with someone you want to spend time with and yet you are working on the computer at the same time. Unease, anxiety, tension, stress, worry—all forms of fear—are caused by too much future, and not enough presence. Guilt, regret, resentment, grievances, sadness, bitterness, and all forms of non-forgiveness are caused by too much past, and not enough presence. Eckhart Tolle Have you ever felt like your relationship was empty? You have no passion for your work? Ever caught yourself not being totally there? We all check out at times. I have done it 3 or four times today and even the work day is not over. You too space out at times. How does that leave you feeling? Checking out is a defense mechanism. It is how we handle the huge requirement of this life. What can we do to become more focused? It is not really possible for all of us to move to a monastery and not have the constant pull of life tugging at us. Here are 9 signs that you are not present Your thoughts race at night You avoid situations You forget how you got to where you are You think everything is a stepping stone to the future that never arrives You can’t remember the last thing you ate You are bad with names You feel disconnected from others Your hooked to your phone Nothing seems fun anymore So what tools do we use to want less? First one is mindfulness. The way you use this is you focus on the five senses. Notice the hot water of the shower. Concentrate on the view on your way to work. Listen to the sounds around you. Ruminate on the seasoning of the food that you are eating. These might seem like Mundane sensations, you might even think they are boring, but as you reflect on these you will cultivate an awareness and everything will become interesting and you will become present. Yoga is a great way to connect with your body and the moment Writing in a Journal. Write about what you feel and the thoughts that you are stuck on. Write about anything that crosses your mind. Take a walk in nature. Medictate and breathe. Watch ideals and urges. Let go of expectations. Now I want to let you know how much I appreciate each of you spending your time with me today. Especially those who have had these ideas run through their heads. I think of you each day. I get you. You are a big part of my life and I’m glad you are here.
