Songs of a Savior — He Shall Reign Forevermore

Once we know the Christmas story, what now? The magi of Matthew 2 model the answer. Gentile scholars from the east, likely modern-day Iraq, they were watching Old Testament prophecy and longing for the King while God's own scholars missed him. The Spirit, the Scriptures, and a miraculous star led them to Jesus, and nothing, not distance, danger, nor a murderous Herod, kept them away. They recognized Jesus as King while Herod saw only a child. Their gifts revealed who they understood him to be: gold for a king, frankincense for a priest, and myrrh for one who would die. The closing question is the message's burden: to what lengths will we go to worship the King, and will we give him our best?
