Songs of a Savior — "Who Would Have Dreamed"

The coming of Jesus was no surprise plan. Isaiah foretold a virgin-born son seven hundred years in advance, and over three hundred Old Testament prophecies pointed to how, when, and why the Messiah would come. This first message in the Christmas series argues that the manger is a sign revealing three things about God: his power, displayed in a miraculous virgin birth; his love, in Emmanuel, God moving into the neighborhood to share our life; and his faithfulness, in prophecy upon prophecy precisely fulfilled. From the protoevangelium of Genesis 3 forward, Scripture tells the story of a God who went to unimaginable lengths to be in relationship with us. The gift of Christmas points toward the cross, and it need not wait until Easter to be received.
