Hunt, Jr. Award for Outstanding Graduate Presentation or Poster for her poster entitled Cardiometabolic health among Purepecha in North Carolina. Godinez is a graduate student at UNC Chapel Hill working with Dr. Amanda Thompson, and recently completed a successful doctoral defense on her research with the Purepecha population. In this interview, we talk to Godinez about field work, migration, cardiometabolic health, and reevaluating the common acculturation narrative among the Purepecha in North Carolina.
