Is there life after baseball? Professional athletes sometimes struggle to answer that question as they leave the national stage. But those whose achievements formerly drove headlines aren’t the only ones who must shift as they enter a new season of life. An ex-CEO might slip into making executive decisions when choosing a family dental plan. An ex-teacher might apply critical thinking to daily decision making. An ex-salesperson might mentally reframe a store display. Being an ex-anything requires adjustments. Thanks to the sacrificial death and resurrection of Jesus, we will always be God’s child. Remnants of previous years might creep in under the obvious budget and schedule changes as we move through aging. However, beneath the echoes of our former self we will always experience contentment as a child of God, nestled in His comforting arms.
