Sound Check at City Hall: The Libertine Movement to Keep Downtown SLO’s Music Alive

from Up + Adam with Adam Montiel · host Adam Montiel

Downtown San Luis Obispo is having a moment. And right at the center of it is Libertine Brewing Company on the corner of Broad and Pacific. In this episode of Up+Adam, Adam sits down with John Pranjaic, Events Manager at Libertine, to unpack the noise complaint controversy that has made headlines in local media. But this is not just a recap. This is a deeper conversation about permits, enforcement, small business realities, and what kind of downtown SLO we actually want to build.Libertine has evolved into a 200 to 300 person live music venue that many see as filling the void left by the Garden Street era. In 2025 alone, the venue paid out more than $125,000 to local musicians and entertainers. It hosts weekly jazz jams, open mic comedy, line dancing, salsa nights, touring bands, and community fundraisers including Adam’s Breaking and Entering Christmas Jingle Jam.Now, after a year of complaints from a nearby resident and multiple reviews with the city, Libertine’s use permit is under administrative review.Public Hearing Details:• February 23 at 2:30 pmCity Hall990 Palm StreetSan Luis Obispo, CACommunity members may attend and speak.
