The 3/2 note syncopated rhythm has been in Ghana for years, often times referred to as the highlife bell pattern, but has recently been popularized by Nigerian artists such as Mr Eazi, Davido and the likes. Sound of Africa vol. 9 part 1 showcases this latest trend by compiling some of the best examples of "Pon Pon" as well as taking a slight look at another upcoming trend in Afrobeats - r&b-infused afrobeats from the UK.
