Sounding the housing crisis - Investigation Questions [bonus]

from Sound Propositions · host Joseph Sannicandro

Last fall I shared the first episode of Sounding the Housing Crisis, a bilingual (French/English) podcast by a collective of Montreal sound artists and tenants. I co-produced the eight episode series with Hubert Gendron-Blais, organizing and editing the contributions from each member of the collective. The project was partially inspired by the “militant sound inquiry” of Ultra-Red. In 2021, Ultra-Red co-founder Dont Rhine visited Montreal for a seminar at McGill, followed by a workshop/performance as part of Echoes of a Distance, Music, Protest and Community in Confined Times, organized by Hubert and The International Institute for Critical Studies in Improvisation (IICSI). I'm now sharing the eighth episode in this feed as well, since it is one where I think my fingerprints are most visible. More on that entire project: https://www.reverberationscriselogement.org/ Find the series wherever you find this podcast, or stream/download at bandcamp: https://lostchildren.bandcamp.com/album/r-verb-rations-d-une-crise-une-enqu-te-sonore-sur-le-logement-montr-al-sounding-the-housing-crisis This eighth and last episode of the podcast 'Réverbérations d'une crise: Sounding the Housing Crisis' looks back to the elaboration of the investigation question that guided the project's the composition process, addressing in passing issues of mental health, precarity, the role of artists and gentrification. 1. Song Against Songs, The by G. K. Chesterton (1874 - 1936) LibriVox LibriVox volunteers bring you 9 recordings of The Song Against Songs by G. K. Chesterton. This was the Fortnightly Poetry project for October 16, 2011.Chesterton was a large man, standing 6 feet 4 inches (1.93 m) and weighing around 21 stone (130 kg; 290 lb). His girth gave rise to a famous anecdote. During World War I a lady in London asked why he was not 'out at the Front'; he replied, 'If you go round to the side, you will see that I am.' On another occasion he remarked to his friend George Bernard Shaw: "To look at you, anyone would think a famine had struck England". Shaw retorted, "To look at you, anyone would think you have caused it". P. G. Wodehouse once described a very loud crash as "a sound like Chesterton falling onto a sheet of tin."( Summary from Wikipedia ) Spanish with Levi Levi Flint 🎙️ Welcome to Spanish with Levi — formerly Mexican Fluency.I’m Levi — a gringo with a Master’s in Teaching Spanish — and I’m here to help you understand and sound more Mexican when you speak.Alongside my Mexican wife, Renata, I share practical tips, immersive stories, and real conversations to help you build fluency and speak with confidence.📅 New episodes every week:• Tuesdays: Smarter ways to study Spanish• Thursdays: Immersive content — stories, scene breakdowns, and interviewsExplore my courses, blog, and more at SpanishWithLevi.com📱 Follow me on social: @SpanishWithLevi Newsic – The sound of the headlines Newsic Team Newsic – The sound of the headlines.
