South Africa may face class action over Sharpeville massacre

Survivors and dependents of the 1960 Sharpeville Massacre—one of the defining events of the anti-apartheid struggle—have applied for court permission to launch a class action against the South African government. The legal initiative targets the state's continued failure to repeal a 65-year-old law that blocks victims and their families from seeking financial damages.
