SOUTH AFRICA REGARDS 60.9% YOUTH EMPOWERMENT RATE 2026

According to the Quarterly Labour Force Survey (QLFS) by Statistics South Africa, the 60.9% figure referenced represents the unemployment rate for youth aged 15 to 24, rather than an empowerment rate. This means 60.9% of young people actively participating in the labor force in this age group are unable to secure jobs. The employment absorption rate for young South Africans remains critically low, leaving a large portion of the demographic stuck outside of employment, education, or training (NEET).
