South Africa to push for a Permanent Security Council Seat
from General Podcast · host Channel Africa
South Africa's chief diplomat says it would be very strange if the country is not considered a front-runner for one of two proposed permanent seats on a reformed United Nations Security Council. In a broad-ranging interview after traveling to New York from the Non Aligned Movement Summit in Venezuela, South Africa's International Relations Minister, Maite Nkoana-Mashabane, says her country has never refused to serve when called upon to do so. This as President Jacob Zuma met privately with Secretary General Ban Ki Moon among a number of key bilaterals on his first full day in New York. Sherwin Bryce-Pease reports.
