South African doctor behind pioneering womb surgery to fix baby with intestines outside his body

A London family are smiling today thanks to a South African doctor in Texas who led a team in performing an operation on a foetus while he was still in the womb, gently pushing its intestines back into his tiny body. The procedure was carried out in Texas where Dr Michael Belfort has been performing similar operations in the past, helping babies with spina bifida.
