The South African Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) has indicated that the national elections will take place in May 2019. Addressing a press conference, IEC chairperson, Glen Mashinini said the official date will be confirmed by President Ramaphosa closer to the time. As political parties start campaigning for the elections, what has been evident with the major political parties such as the African National Congress and the Democratic Alliance is the tensions within their political parties, meanwhile new political parties have registered to compete for seats in parliament.
