South African politics

from African Dialogue · host Channel Africa

South African political analyst, Susan Booysen, says the stage is set for the exit of Jacob Zuma as South Africa's president. The country woke up to another day of confusion following a week of uncertainty on Zuma's future. Yesterday, speaker of the National Assembly, Baleka Mbete, announced that the scheduled State of the Nation Address which was set for tomorrow, February the 8th, was postponed till further notice. The postponement comes after the opposition parties, the Democratic Alliance and the Economic Freedom Fighters, wrote to Mbete requesting that President Zuma not be allowed to deliver the address. There's been speculation on Zuma's departure, but still no major announcement. To unpack more on what this means for South Africa we have :• • Zorah Dawood, Director, Centre for Unity in Diversity • Emeritus Professor Shadrack Gutto from the University of South Africa (UNISA)
