South Africa’s leading opposition party is gearing up to lead a march.

from African Dialogue · host Channel Africa

In its latest plan of action, South Africa’s leading opposition party the Democratic Alliance is gearing up to lead a march across the country on Friday in protest against the power crisis at power utility Eskom and the looming electricity tariff hike. The National Energy Regulator of South Africa will raise the cost of electricity by an average of 3.5% above inflation for the next three years. Eskom has been marred by corruption, rolling black-outs and governance challenges. But South Africa’s president Cyril Ramaphosa is optimistic that the power utility can be turned around and emphasised that the government is taking steps to correct all that went wrong.
