from Neon Jazz Interviews · host Neon Jazz Interviews - The Finest Jazz Musicians From All Over the Globe
Welcome to a new edition of the Neon Jazz interview series with South Korean-born, Brooklyn-based Jazz Pianist Hayoung Lyou .. We caught up with her to talk about the new album The Myth of Katabasis with her band featuring Thomas Morgan on double bass and Steven Crammer on drums, along with her life in music. “Katabasis" means "journey to the underworld" in Greek, and the structure of the record reflects a hero's journey into the metaphorical underworld, full of struggles, uncertainty and triumphs. She began classical piano training at the age of 5 and won prestigious competitions such as the Seoul National Orchestra Piano Competition. After a successful classical career, she switched to jazz and attended the Berklee College of Music on scholarship. It’s a story you need to hear.
