Welcome to a new edition of the Neon Jazz interview series with Southern California-based Drummer & Percussionist David Whitman .. He released a wonderful new album .. The new 2023 CD Ode to Joe that stands as his fourth release and harkens back to the golden era of Blue Note, Riverside, and Verve, when spontaneity, passion, and magic ruled the studio. Recorded at Capitol Studios in Los Angeles over two days with a set of tunes by Whitman and GRAMMY nominated arranger Andrew Neesley. He is trained as a well-rounded concert percussionist in concert halls, as a jazz musician in clubs and on bandstands, and as an artist under the tutelage of great teachers like Joe Morello. He brings a passion and deep respect for the music to the stage wherever and whenever he performs. We get into all of this .. Dig in..
