Southern California Surf Forecast Friday: 5-8 Foot Waves San Luis Obispo, High Rip Current Risk Ventura LA
from Surf Report for Los Angeles California · host Inception Point AI
Good morning surfers, this is your Friday morning surf forecast for Southern California, brought to you by the National Weather Service. Let's start down south in San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara's central coast, where things are firing up nicely. You're looking at solid five to eight foot waves today with that west swell pumping through. Water temps are chilly, ranging from fifty two to fifty seven degrees, so definitely suit up. Tomorrow the action ramps up even more. Northwest facing beaches will see six to nine footers, while the southwest exposures will be more in the four to seven foot range. It's going to be a fun day if you like some size. Moving up the coast to Santa Barbara's county beaches, things are a bit more mellow. You've got one to three foot waves with some local sets pushing four feet. The rip current risk is low, which is great news if you're planning to get out there. Water's hovering around sixty degrees. Saturday looks similar with that same one to three foot pattern, so it's a nice, relaxed vibe for those who prefer smaller, more manageable conditions. Now here's where things get more interesting. Over at Ventura County beaches, we're seeing three to five foot surf for both today and tomorrow, but listen up, there's a HIGH rip current risk both days. That means life threatening rip currents are likely, so you need to be smart out there. Know how to spot them and know how to escape them if you get caught. Water temps are in the comfortable zone at sixty two to sixty four degrees. No thunderstorms expected, so at least the weather will cooperate. Same story over at the Malibu Coast and Los Angeles County beaches. You're looking at three to five foot waves with that HIGH rip current risk in effect today and tomorrow. Water's a touch cooler here, ranging from fifty seven to sixty five degrees. It's mixed south and west swell both days, so there should be some fun shaped waves in there. Overall, it's a solid weekend on the water with no thunderstorms anywhere along the coast. Just remember, respect those rip currents in Ventura and Los Angeles County. Check the conditions, watch for narrow bands of churning water flowing seaward, and if you find yourself in one, stay calm, don't panic, and swim parallel to shore.
