Speak A Word

In Luke 7:1–10, the centurion demonstrated a faith that caused even Jesus to marvel. In this message, Bishop Mills reminds us that faith is more than what we say we believe—it should be evident in how we live, how we respond to God's Word, and how we treat others. The centurion understood his position, but more importantly, he understood who Jesus was. He didn't consider himself worthy for Jesus to come under his roof, yet he had enough faith to believe that Jesus didn't have to be physically present to heal his servant. All He had to do was speak a word. His actions also demonstrated humility, sincerity, compassion, and a willingness to operate outside of his normal circle. He showed concern for his servant and respect for people who were different from him. We must be careful not to place all of our trust—or limit all of our experiences—to the people within our own circles. If everyone around us has the same characteristics, experiences, and perspectives, how will we ever learn anything different? As believers, we are called to stand on our faith and what we hear from God. We may not be able to see everything we hope for or touch everything we desire, but we can trust the authority of God's Word. Sow into what you believe, remain humble, and let your actions be evidence of your faith. Sometimes, all you need is for God to speak a word.
