Three times the boy ran to the old priest, and three times Eli sent him back. It took the priest three attempts to realize what was happening, and his slowness reveals something devastating: revelation from the Lord had become uncommon. God had not stopped speaking, but Israel had stopped recognizing his voice.When Eli finally understood, he gave Samuel words that would shape his entire life: If you are called again, say Speak Lord, for your servant is listening. Notice the order. The servant listens because the Lord speaks. Samuel positioned himself as the one who receives, who waits, whose job is to hear and obey.In Capernaum that evening, the whole town gathered at Simon's door. Every sick child, every tormented relative, every desperate need converging on one house. Jesus healed many and drove out demons until late into the night.Then rising very early before dawn, he went to a deserted place and prayed. The power that flowed out all evening flowed in during those predawn hours. Simon pursued him: Everyone is looking for you. But Jesus had heard from the Father. Let us go to other villages. This is why I have come.You cannot give what you have not received.
