This episode includes discussions about trial of labor, vbac, and advocating for yourself. Dr. Weathersby first discusses the advantages of a caesarian section. A vaginal and caesarian delivery each have their own advantages depending on the health of the baby and current and previous health factors of the mother. It is possible for a mother to have a vaginal birth after a caesarian section. This is also known as a vbac. Dr. Weathersby does not recommend a vbac after more than one c-section due to scarring of the uterus. Risks arise even after one uterine scar due to the weakening of the uterus. The term uterine window is used to describe a very thin and weakened uterus. This leads to a high risk of rupture. If a woman with only one previous c-section wants a trial of labor, they must meet certain criteria and it must occur in a hospital setting. Before leaving the hospital after delivery, there are several things a mother should take note of. It is very important to communicate to your health care provider if you have persistent headaches, fevers, difficulty walking, belly pain, or urinary retention.
