I keep hearing people say"If you're in America, speak American.""Stop speaking Spanish, this is America.""Speak the right language or get out."Cool story bro.“American” isn’t even a language.English came from England.You know, the country you supposedly fought a revolution against.Spanish has been spoken in North America for over 500 years.English only 400 yearsSo if we’re playing the “original language” game you’re losing by about 100 years.And before BOTH of them?Native Americans. For thousands of years. Their own languages.But sure. Let's “Speak American.”The states you love so much?Florida. Nevada. New Mexico. Colorado. Montana. Arizona, CaliforniaAll Spanish names. Every single one.Half this country was literally Spanish-speaking territory before it was American territory.Half of America was owned by Spain.The Rio Grande? Spanish.Los Angeles? Spanish.San Francisco? Spanish.The land itself basically speaks Spanish.And here’s the part you’re gonna hate:There are more Spanish speakers in the United States today than in Spain.The United States is the second largest Spanish-speaking country on earth.So when you scream “speak American”You’re not defending tradition.You’re just scared of a language that was here before your ancestors were.So next time someone tells you to “speak American”Just smile.And remind them:this land was speaking Spanish before their ancestors even knew it existed.Estás despedido.
