Spécial « An American holiday - The Fourth of July » Every year on the Fourth of July, Americans celebrate Independence Day, the day they won independence from England in 1776. To celebrate, Americans have a picnic with family and friends. They eat hamburgers, hot dogs, potato salad, watermelon and strawberry short cake for dessert. They also play games like egg in a spoon, a water balloon toss, a three-legged race and a potato sack race. At night, everyone in the town gathers to watch fireworks. Let’s explain the rules of the games: - Egg in a spoon You put an egg in a spoon, you hold the spoon in your hand and you have to run to your partner without dropping the egg. We call that game a relay race. - The three-legged race Everyone has a partner. They stand next to each other and tie their middle legs to- gether. They race to the other side and back. The first couple wins the race. - Potato sack race Each person stands in a potato sack and hops to the other side and back. The first person back wins.
