I go back through the seasons of RHOP and discuss Ashley, the magician (she's waved her wand and we have somehow forgotten the deep provocations and the true messiness of Ashley), how the Monique, Charrisse and Candiace situation are reminiscent of the Monique, Ashley and Candiace situation, and how Ashley gets the grace from the viewer that seems to escape Candiace (maybe because of the butter knife??)I talk about the conversations that are being had about what it means to "run your mouth" and if that warrants a fight (if that's the case then why aren't there fights across the board because that's what housewives do-run their mouths.) I then talk about the Vice article and the "respectability in politics" piece, even with the disrespectful undertones; lets talk about consciously avoiding associating stereotypical negative behaviors to black women, while at the same time using the word Becky as a negative to describe a fellow black woman in a stereotypical negative light, because she speaks a certain way. And I start to wonder if all of the think pieces and in depth conversations about black women on tv and what is or isn't our responsibility, is actually fanning the flames of conversation between people who don't look like us...and I wonder if it's truly necessary? Is this instance on Potomac really that deep? Or could it be that the fight was just that...a fight? And that's all?
