Do do do do do do it. All right, Greg, welcome to the new thinkories new thinkery edition in anticipation of Thanksgiving. Greg McBrayer, how are you doing? He links thankful David.
I'm thankful you're my friend and my co-host and Alex, pre you and equally thankful for you. How are you? I'm thankful as well for you and also for Greg. Happy Thanksgiving guys.
This is coming out on. Thanks. We'll just say it. We'll be listening to us while they're having their solitary Thanksgiving dinners.
And so it will be like their pseudo family here. They're standing. Yeah. Invite us into our stovers, turkey dinners.
Yeah. Invite us into your home. Sweet pictures of your Thanksgiving dinners to us at the new thinkery. Yeah.
We'll tweet ours if you do yours. So this is a special episode. Greg. You thinkery.
Yeah. Greg and I have the new thinkery. Greg and I don't know what's coming. No idea.
This Alex is structured this episode. So well, I thought it might be nice. We record something 15, 20 minutes. We we have got some good Thanksgiving themed questions for the podcast.
Yeah. But you told me that this was a see this is a listener. You can't. It's hard to trust Alex.
He told me Greg that this was a shower cam episode. And I said, let's come do that kind of stuff, Alex. You know, we just want straight down the middle questions. Why you got your shower cap on then?
You're a duckie. And you're here. I don't know. I didn't force you to do that.
It was time to stick with Charlie. So I think we should start. We should start by saying that we here at the new thinkery are very thankful for our listeners. Right.
For those who have donated less over those who have not, please donate. But very gracefully, don't forget to donate. Don't forget to donate because the holidays remember the holidays are coming up. We also like to give thanks to our many guests.
Right. We've had first and foremost, of course, Charles Butterworth, Professor Emeritus from the University of Maryland. We've had James Caesar as well of the University of Virginia, Robert Bartlett of Boston College and another Boston College Robert, who's episode will be, I think, be released next Wednesday, Robert Faulkner, with whom we discuss a bacon, some selections of bacon. So we're very, very thankful for them as well.
We're thankful. Of course, I can't believe I've waited this long for the morning. Again, that's right. Yeah.
Thank you, Jake. Yeah. Without whom none of this would be possible. No.
Yeah. He's the fuse that keeps it all. And I mean, that's right. So yeah, we're thankful for all of that.
And of course, I'm thankful for my co-host. And we've got some other guests who agree to be on. So we'll thank, thanks them as well. Thanks all of you.
Yeah, I'll see you. You know, I want to make it. I know this is. But thank Doris Cerns Goodwin, who is agreed to come on the show.
I'm thankful for that. And I'd like to thank Norm McDonnell. I mean, I can't believe we got him. I can't really.
I'm really looking forward to that. Thanks, Norm. I appreciate it. But Jason Simpson, thankful for him.
He's going to be on the show. Just you guys should tweet at him to sort of express your, you know, confirm our gratitude. Yeah. Yeah.
Yeah, especially you blue check listeners, just, uh, both of our blue check listeners, please tweet at them. Yeah. Thank you, Alexa O'Brien. Thank you, us all work fans.
We have a few standout fans of the show and very grateful. So I came up with some Thanksgiving questions. These are really good questions. We're going to keep them quick, but I thought I'd go back and forth and ask you guys some Thanksgiving questions.
So why don't I start smiling? Like this is so I'll start with you. Uh, what's the, what's the work of philosophy? Who's you?
Who's you? We're both. Sorry with you Greg. Why I'm sorry.
Okay. What's the work of philosophy for which you are most thankful? Probably the Plato's were taggers because it's the one that got me interested in philosophy. Nice.
How about you, David? What's the work of philosophy for which you are most thankful? Uh, the spirit of the loss. I mean, that's the one that got me in with Butterworth and Greg in that class.
I was like, oh man, this is it. Yeah. I think I choose Plato's Republic personally. Why is that Alex?
Are you asking yourself now? Do you want me to ask? What's what what will the philosopher you want to say before? I have the republic.
Thank you. Oh, yeah. Why is that? I just think it's of all the works of philosophy, the most wide ranging, right?
I mean, it's politics. It's morality, psychology. It's a business. It's a biology.
It's sex. Okay. Let me go to, let me go to Greg now. What is what is the physical accomplishment of yours that you're most thankful for?
Being born. David. That time I devoured 50 cheeseburgers in one city. Greg, what's the literature work?
That you are most thankful for? Oh, that's a good question. Either Moby Dick or Crime and Punishment. I really like both of those works a lot.
Crime and Punishment is probably the work of literature I've reread the most times. But my love of Moby Dick has only come out in the last 10 or 10 years. Great. Well, great books.
We should do episodes on them. Yeah. David. I've said this before, but brothers, Karen was off or the Odyssey.
Nice. Nice. You know, I've been teaching a lot about this. You know, I've been teaching a lot about this.
You know, Frederick Douglass. I like Frederick Douglass. That is a fantastic. That's my head and I just read that together.
That's a fantastic one. Very much. Well, we just recorded something on Plutarch. We have to do this book on this.
Yeah. But I think it's similar to Plutarch in that a life is written that touches on something that's also human, not just individual. It's a very book. How about this one?
Greg, what is the first car of yours that you're thankful for? And first part of my life. So the first I was thankful for was my first truck. I got actually a funny story.
I guess because I keep asking you guys about your cars and stuff. It was a four to 100. It was my great uncle, Josh. I was thankful to get any vehicle because I was a poor kid.
I didn't work. I was stupid at school and other activities. One of the funniest stories about the heater core was broken. So it's smoked, which was kind of funny because so when I drove, it was smoking.
I don't remember the movie, Ace Venture, a pet detective. Like I literally rolled the window down and I would drive to school with my head out the window looking for traffic. One of the funniest stories in retrospect is that I dated my very first girlfriend. It's actually super pretty girl.
Laura. She our very first day. She would not. It was an old pickup truck.
She would not get in the pickup truck. She was like, no, I'm not writing in that. Oh, man. Yeah, I should have known right then.
Probably think we're not going to go well. She had champagne taste and she was dating. No, not champagne. Yeah, just a guy that gets to smoke jackets daily.
That was a kid. But I was very thankful. My parents and my family, you know, it was really nice that they took care of that and arranged it for me. So I'm very thankful for that.
They were about you first car for what you were thankful. I'm not. My parents gave me a Volkswagen and rabbit. I inherited that and I learned stick and then I forgot how to do stick.
And then I just didn't have a car for decades until three weeks ago. That was mine that I bought. Actually, no, I'm grateful for the BMW. Dad, let me drive around in North, in whatever, Illinois, because it was so cold.
It was a four-wheel drive. I appreciate this. Greg, any nuclear... Hold on, what about you?
What about you? What about you? Alex? Alex?
Alex has had 20. Alex has had 20 cars. Then the shot gave you a... Wasn't your first car Mercedes?
The shot gave you? No, no. My parents gave it to me. No, my first car was a...
Oh, Mercedes, my favorite car. It was a little... You're not listening to me. It wasn't Mercedes.
No, no, it was a 1982 Mercedes. It was old. But my favorite car is probably was my... I had in high school and into college a BMW 328i stick shift.
That was really fun. Black and be able to let it go. What happened to that one? I got crashed.
I got crashed. I got crashed. I got crashed. Okay.
Nick name for which you are thankful? Greg? I have a lot of Nick names. I don't know if there are any for which I'm thankful.
In high school, folks called me Air McBrayer because I had gone to a national wrestling tournament and gotten thrown around so much that I spent most of my time in the air. That's a true story. That's not a good name for a wrestler. How about this great politician in your lifetime that you're most thankful for?
In my lifetime? I don't know. God, that's a good question. I don't know.
How about politician in your lifetime that you're least thankful for? I came up with these thankful questions. You're not even answering them. I'm sorry.
I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry.
I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry.
Antifranch Greg. You mentioned Frederick Douglass. I'm thankful for Frederick Douglass. People I live in my lifetime but more politicians.
I use mistakes in SEO, I'll say. I would say I'd grown to appreciateats. A lot since I've become an adult. What are you reading right now that you're thankful for?
I picked up a book called The Great Cat Massacre, with a few muted selected hint on cultural, a French enlightenment. Winter history, he's wealthy guys got together and loved a bunch of cats on fire and thought it's hilarious. I mean, I don't, I came up with these questions. You didn't talk about any questions.
You just, those are my questions with thankful at different. What are you talking about? No, I came up with these. You're lightning round questions stink.
These are way better than your lightning round questions. Well, we should probably really, this is a silly fun. This is a good time. We are thankful for our listeners.
I'm thankful for our listeners. I'm thankful for our listeners. When you guys, when we talked about doing this, I never would have thought that we would get tens of listeners. I thought that was way too ambitious.
So I really am very grateful. I'm grateful for all of you. We should probably be clear that that's a joke. We don't just have tens of listeners or listeners.
We probably 20s. Maybe 30s. I am thankful for you guys. You guys really did push me to do this.
I think it's been a lot of fun. I've learned a lot and especially when we started during the pandemic, it was, it's nice to have just time with my friends actually talk about great books. So this is so nice to hug you guys. The physical touch is so important.
I have a pillow that I named David that I hugged. I guess we have the three of us have wives. So yeah, yeah. Yeah.
I think I tell you something. Greg has his cheese and. Oh, good God. I'm gonna get fired.
I'm gonna get fired. I believe that I'm Jake. Good. I thought Alex, you were gonna ask us like lightning round questions that were I just took Greg's last appropriate like, do you do you know, just like quick rapid fire.
The idea was I took Greg Greg didn't react until too late in the pocket. I was hoping he would get angry at my use of his lightning round questions, but I'm not. I don't get angry. Okay.
Okay. Everybody. Thank you guys. Thank you Greg as well.
Very thankful for you. I'm thankful for you David and I'm above all thankful for. I don't know. Greg.
Well, I know for the birth Alex and you're gonna have beautiful daughter and they'll be born very soon. I will see. Don't let her grow up in Sparta though. No, one nice one of the things like we've gotten people who donated.
I'm really thankful for that. People who've listened. We've got a lot of great and just people dropping us notes saying this reminded me of my time in college. This is great.
I really enjoy it. I think one of the best notes I've read that you got. I don't even know David and Greg that well, but I feel like I'm friends with him now. Oh, that was nice note.
That was such a nice note. We've gotten three or four notes that I thought, wow, we really may be actually doing something kind of nice here and not just some stupid fart joke and sex joke sound thing. Yeah. Something I could be proud of.
One day in my old age. Oh, god. This is a comedy like that. Yeah, on the verge of tears.
Never rub another man. There you go. Thanks everybody for listening. Thanks everybody.
Bye people. Bye. Bye. Bye.
