Special Topic: COVID-19, Variants, and Higher Ed - On Campus Podcast

Philip A. Chan, MD, MS, an Associate Professor in the Department of Medicine and School of Public Health at Brown University and infectious diseases physician spoke to On Campus with CITI Program about COVID-19, variants, and implications for higher education institutions. Dr. Chan also serves as Consultant Medical Director for the Rhode Island Department of Health Division of Preparedness, Response, Infectious Disease and EMS (PRIDEMS).COVID-19 is caused by a coronavirus called SARS-CoV-2. Since March 2020, more than 53 million cases have been reported in the United States alone. Throughout the course of the COVID-19 pandemic, multiple variants of concern have become the dominant strain of the virus, such as Delta and Omicron. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Omicron variant is likely to spread more easily than the original strain of SARS-CoV-2.
