Special Weather Statement | New York Weather 6 PM
from The New York Weather Podcast
Good evening! I'm Aaron Jolly. And welcome to the New York Weather Podcast. It's Wednesday, February 25th. That dusting overnight? Just the appetizer. A cold front is slicing through the state tonight.. And it's bringing snow squalls and a serious temperature drop. Folks, if you're in the city, you lucked out today. Partly sunny skies pushed the metro up to 42 degrees. Tonight stays dry. Lows settle around 35. Enjoy that calm, because it won't last. Now head up the Thruway toward Albany. Clouds thicken and the mood changes. The Capital Region topped out at 36 degrees. Snow showers roll in between 7 P.M. and midnight. Quick coating, maybe half an inch. Then temperatures nosedive to 23. Central New York gets the heaviest action. Snow showers are already firing this afternoon. One to two inches possible before things taper off overnight. Highs hit 40 today, but lows crash to 22. That wet ground freezes fast, so watch your step tomorrow morning. Out in Western New York, the wind is the story. Gusts screaming to 38 miles an hour this afternoon. That kind of wind finds every zipper you forgot to close. Highs near 35, but tonight drops to a raw 18 degrees. Your car's gonna groan when you start it tomorrow. Thursday looks quieter across the board. Highs range from the upper 20s north to the upper 30s downstate. A breather day. Now the week ahead tells an interesting story. Friday brings sunshine and 40s. Saturday spikes to 46 degrees.. The kind of afternoon where you almost forget what month it's. Almost. Because a cold front crashes through Saturday night. Sunday into early next week? We're back in the 20s and teens with multiple shots at snow. Winter's got at least one more haymaker left. Spring equinox is three weeks out. But March is going to make us earn it. Charge your phone tonight. If the power flickers upstate, you'll want the battery. That's your forecast — we'll be back tomorrow.
