Good morning! I'm Aaron Jolly. And welcome to the North Carolina Weather Podcast. It's Tuesday, February 24th. Step outside right now and you'll feel 29 degrees. Crisp. Clear. Quiet. Folks, enjoy that quiet.. Because this week is about to get wild. We're looking at a 30 degree temperature swing by the weekend. Sunrise hits at 6:52 A.M. Under gorgeous blue skies. Now let's talk about your day. Up in the mountains, you're waking up to a frosty 18 degrees. Feels more like 18 degrees with that wind cutting through. You'll climb to 47 by 4 P.M., with winds shifting westerly around 2 P.M. Dress in layers if you're heading out early. Over in the Triangle, 28 degrees at your doorstep. Feels like 21. Sunny all day with a high of 48. Winds turn west by 1 P.M. Nothing dramatic. Just a gorgeous winter day. The Piedmont mirrors that story. Twenty five degrees at dawn, warming to 48 by afternoon. Light northwest winds around 8 miles an hour. Tonight clouds creep in. Lows settle near 31 in the mountains, 36 in the Triangle, 39 across the Piedmont. Here's where it gets interesting. Southwest winds crank up to 20 to 30 miles an hour by Wednesday afternoon. With humidity dropping into the 30s, that's a real fire concern. You'll want to hold off on any outdoor burning. Now the week ahead tells a great story. Wednesday brings the warm up. Highs near 60 statewide, but those gusty winds stick around at 15 to 26 miles an hour. Thursday a cold front rolls through with widespread rain. Likely showers across the mountains and Triangle, soaking the Piedmont too. Highs still in the mid 60s. Friday dries out with lingering clouds. And then.. The weekend. Sunny skies. Sixty five to 70 degrees. Short sleeve weather in February. Let that sink in.
