from Spectrum Uncensored · host Spectrum Uncensored

In this episode I chat to Mel from Western Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. Mel was diagnosed late in life with Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) and Generalised Anxiety. She began her career as a primary teacher and is now a teacher librarian. We chat about how Autism is often misdiagnosed as BPD (especially in women) and how that can effect future-proofing. Discussing minority groups and the definition of 'normal', we delve into what society expects and perceives and why this issues can be so damaging. Mel also has a partner who is Autistic with ADHD and a son who she believes is the same. Chatting about her son, we compare some notes, touching on strength-based language and the definition of inclusivity. Thank you so much for chatting with me, Mel! You are definitely one of my people and I'm here for it! If you have any questions for Mel, please pop them below.
