Speech Onomatopoeia ブツブツとボソボソ

In the last two episodes, we went over some words that express feelings such as 「ドキドキ」「ニコニコ」＆「ムカムカ」. The key is to know where you feel those feelings. 「ドキドキ」 - you feel it in your heart. 「ニコニコ」 - you feel it in your cheeks. 「ムカムカ」- you feel it in your gut. Please feel free to go back to previous episodes for meanings. 前回と前々回のエピソードでは、感情を表現するオノマトペについてお話ししました。「ドキドキ」は心で、「ニコニコ」は頬で、そして「ムカムカ」はお腹で感じます。詳しくは５と６話目のエピソードをお聞きください。 さて、今回のキーワードは「ブツブツ」と「ボソボソ」です。 The words of this episode are 「ブツブツ」and「ボソボソ」. These are mumbling sounds when someone is talking to themselves or muttering complaints. Let’s look at the following examples. 彼がブツブツと独り言を呟く癖は、父親譲りだ。 His habit of mumbling to himself takes after his father. あの子は空に向かってブツブツと文句を言った。 That little girl muttered into the air. さっき何、ボソボソ言っていたの。 What were you muttering about earlier? 彼女はうつむいてボソボソと何が起きたか説明した。 She looked down and mumbled explaining what had happened. On the side note, 「呟く」means to mumble, and 「呟き」is the noun form. They are often used to translate the words “tweet” and “a twitter feed”. 因みに、呟くという動詞はよく、ツイッターに投稿する行為のことを指します。 また、「呟き」はツイッターの投稿のことを指します。 That’s it for today. Thank you for listening.
