Sperm Return: Dr. Mistry Explains Success Rates For Vasectomy Reversals

When it comes to the success rates of reversing vasectomies, 7 years and 15 years are generally the two times in which there's a massive drop off in success. If your vasectomy is less than 7 years old, Dr. Mistry generally quotes patients a 85% or higher rate of successful reversal. Between 7 and 15 years, that rate drops to 65%, and if your vasectomy is more than 15 years old, you can expect about a 35% chance or less of successful reversal. These rates are averages meant to give patients the information they need to make reproductive choices and do not guarantee outcomes. However, vasectomy reversals aren't the only option for men who want to be fathers again after having vasectomies--your sperm can also be harvested to be used in IVF procedures if the likelihood of a successful vasectomy reversal is low.
