Spider-Man Hits $2 Billion, The Rivals of Amziah King, Insidious & Mutiny

Spider-Man: Brand New Day has officially crossed $2 billion worldwide, becoming the highest-grossing Spider-Man film and one of the biggest movies of all time. Guy T. Wehman, Allison Rose, and Stephen Leibowitz discuss how far the blockbuster can climb, whether $3 billion is possible, and why its July 31 release date may have given Marvel the perfect runway through the rest of summer. The team also looks at Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey, which continues holding strong at the box office and dominating IMAX screens. Stephen takes on It Ends, a low-budget thriller about four friends trapped on a seemingly endless road. The single-location concept keeps the production contained, but Stephen finds the philosophical conversations and repetitive setup unable to sustain the film's 90-minute runtime. Allison then discusses Tony, the Anthony Bourdain biographical drama starring Dominic Sessa and Antonio Banderas. The film focuses on one pivotal summer in Bourdain's life and offers plenty for food lovers, though Allison wonders how much of its appeal depends on audiences already being interested in the famous chef. Next up is Insidious: Out of the Further, the sixth entry in the horror franchise. Allison finds it suspenseful, creepy, and packed with effective jump scares while introducing a new wrinkle to The Further. It may not be the franchise's best installment, but its low-budget, high-return formula shows why the series keeps coming back.
