Spider-Man Rules for 6 Weeks, Practical Magic 2 Arrives & The Fix Reviewed

Spider-Man: Brand New Day remains unstoppable. Guy T. Wehman, Allison Rose, and Stephen Leibowitz open this week's FlickRadio with Spider-Man holding the number-one spot for an incredible sixth consecutive week and closing in on $2.5 billion worldwide. The summer's other major hits aren't disappearing either. The Odyssey moves back into second place with approximately $1.6 billion worldwide, while Coyote vs. Acme drops to third but continues benefiting from strong word of mouth and nostalgia. The team also discusses Buddy, which accomplished the unusual feat of making more money during its second weekend than its opening weekend, another example of how horror can build an audience through positive buzz. The big question is whether Spider-Man can survive another weekend at number one. Allison and Stephen disagree on the answer as Practical Magic 2 arrives in theaters. Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman return, and Allison finds that their chemistry and camaraderie still provide the sequel with plenty of magic. She doesn't think it matches the original, but fans who know and love the first film should enjoy returning to this world. Stephen goes further and predicts the witches will finally knock Spider-Man from the top spot. Stephen and Allison also review The Fix, an action thriller starring Zachary Levi and Liam Neeson. The story begins during the 2021 Afghanistan withdrawal before sending its characters on another dangerous mission. Stephen praises several tense and grounded action sequences but finds the nearly two-and-a-half-hour runtime excessive and thinks inconsistent music choices weaken otherwise effective scenes. Allison agrees that the movie runs long and finds many of its twists predictable, although both consider it a decent action thriller overall. Stephen previews The Uprising, a darker Robin Hood-inspired film starring Andrew Garfield. He wasn't able to see the film before the broadcast, so rather than judging it unseen, he's waiting to hear how audiences respond. Allison then reviews Runner, starring Alan Ritchson. After Reacher and Motor City, she wonders whether Ritchson is becoming increasingly typecast as an action star. Runner mixes action, comedy, and thriller elements and delivers a decent experience, although Allison says audiences could comfortably wait for streaming. The episode closes with Classic Picks before the conversation turns more serious for September 11. Stephen chooses the 1976 King Kong, Allison picks the comedy classic Airplane!, and Guy follows this week's Robin Hood theme with Robin Hood: Men in Tights. Guy, Allison, and Stephen then reflect personally on September 11, 2001. Stephen remembers living and working in New York when the attacks occurred, while Allison recalls the terrifying hours when she didn't know whether her father, who worked at the World Trade Center, was safe. The conversation honors those who were lost, the first responders and rescuers who answered the call, and the lasting impact of experiencing history rather than simply reading about it.
